Born and bred in Carmathen, Wales and a graduate of Exeter University, Gilbert went on to try a serious existence working for several market research companies in London. But that's not very comedic eh? No not really. In fact, Rhod was late to the comedic party, joining in at the age of 34. That's because in 2002, he took part in the Amused Moose Stand Up and Deliver course. It wasn't a self-made decision to enter, oh no, it was thanks to the constant nagging of his girlfriend.
Where have you seen Rhod Gilbert?
Within 18 months, he'd won several talent competitions, and was nominated for the Perrier Newcomer award for his first solo show in 2005 at Edinburgh Fringe. Since then, you may have spotted him at the Edinburgh Fringe (again), and on a variety of other shows. Rhod's written a sitcom, Rhod Gilbet's Leaving Llanbobl, which has been a feature on BBC Radio 2 since 2008. Gilbert's stories are drawn from his life in Wales and he sets all his tales in the fictional village of Llanbobl.
There's even talk that it may turn into a TV sitcom. Oooh er.
He's also recorded a show for BBC Radio 2 called Rhod Gilbert's Bulging Barrel of Laughs with comedians like Lloyd Langford, Sarah Millican and even the Taskmaster himself, Greg Davies.
When he's not talking tales on the radio, Gilbert can be found on TV. He's appeared on Mock the Week, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You, 8 out of 10 Cats, Live at the Apollo, and now of course, Taskmaster.
He's even got his own shows, Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience and Ask Rhod Gilbert. But CATCH HIM NOW on TASKMASTER as he competes for the Taskmaster's love and approval.
