Over the years, vehicles throughout the world have ranged from realistic replicas to anything the imagination can conjure up. Previous designs have included a piano, a giant baby carriage, a rodeo clown, a massive corn on the cob, a jail cell and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Road To Red Bull Soapbox Race
In the lead-up to the big race we’ll be paying special attention to The Tube (three guys in finance who are outing their alter egos), Piece Of Cake, Team Thunderbird (trying to break the world record for the most ice lollies eaten in a set amount of time) and Team Spitfyre (a 1920s style team).
With episodes stripped across the week, we’ll get a sneak peek into the competition itself, look at a small selection of the c-c-c-c-razy teams and follow their journey from build to race day. Stand by for thrills spills, design disasters and blood, sweat and tears – the more outlandish design the better and everything’s on the line in the lead-up till race day.
Red Bull Soapbox Race
After months of planning, designing, building and testing, it’s time for the Red Bull Soapbox teams to finally race their incredible creations.
In front of thousands of fans at Alexandra Palace, the Red Bull Soapbox teams let their babies go for one last time, pushing them to the limits. Judged on speed, creativity and showmanship (as well as their pre-race routine on the starting block), the course is strewn with obstacles and potential crash points. Will these wacky racers manage to last the course? Will the crazy, themed designs fall apart when they least expect it?
With music, a party atmosphere for all the family, and presenters Ed Leigh and Radio 1 DJ Alice Levine presenting track-side as well as celebrity judges galore, it should be an amazing day full of thrill, spills and incredible, unique soapboxes.
