About Dara O Briain: School of Hard Sums

The brainbox Irish comedian and broadcaster studied maths and theoretical physics at University College, Dublin and now he’s on a mission to use all his knowledge and intuition to solve some very tasty real-world brainteasers and conundrums set by Marcus du Sautoy, a man so numerically versed, he can even explain complex mathematics to comedians… which is lucky.

Dara O Briai

The brainbox Irish comedian and broadcaster studied mathematics and theoretical physics at University College, Dublin and now he’s on a mission to use all his knowledge and intuition to solve some very tasty real-world brainteasers and conundrums. But instead of pure guesswork, he uses mathematics, physics, chemistry, logic and all those hidden mechanics of the world we don’t see or are too distracted by football to notice to solve his Dave-like problems.

While Dara is one hell of a mathematician, even he'd bow to the eminent University of Oxford mathematics professor Marcus du Sautoy, the show's Question Master and all round genius. To put what Marcus does on the show in simple terms, Marcus puts mathematics in simple terms. He's the kind of man who can explain even the most complex mathematical problems to even the most numerically challenged... which is lucky because most comedians aren't exactly well versed in theoretical mathematics.

In Series 3, the genius-minded duo will take on an abundance of much-loved comics including Peter Serafinowicz, Lee Mack, Kevin Bridges, Sally Phillips, Andrew Maxwell, Josh Widdicombe, Mark Watson, Susan Calman, Jon Richardson, Stephen K Amos, Marcus Brigstocke and Miles Jupp. The teams will fight it out against each other to solve some of the world’s most pondered questions using pure logic and intuition.
